Job Description:

The Independent System Operator (ISO) Power Market Technical Business Analyst is a part of the Shell Energy Competency Centre. The role is responsible for delivering IT projects and enhancements for the Shell Trading & Supply ISO power market domain.

The team is tasked with ownership of Independent System Operator (ISO) power market software, Power Costs, Inc. (PCI) which may include new development, configuration, installation of third party packages, and software integration efforts. The scope of this team may include tasks from every part of the software development lifecycle, including software design, development, programming, configuration, testing, and deployment (both the installation and decommissioning of software).

A key objective of this role is to continue to raise the quality and professionalism of the ISO power market technology work by planning, coordinating, scheduling and delivering product development and configuration, subsequent product releases, coordination of changes, and compliance to standards to deliver the business value intended.

This position has the following accountabilities:

Provide in-house support for custom Java code workflows within the PCI application

Configure and document software and processes, using agreed standards and tools.

Escalate and manage issue resolution with third-party vendor, Power Costs, Inc

Provide subject matter expertise and thought leadership in the ISO power markets domain, bringing industry and power market best practices to evolve the Shell Trading & Supply ISO Power Markets systems landscape

Identify and document the business needs of stakeholders and help to determine feasible solutions to meet business needs or resolve business problems.

Assess and model processes, data flows, and technology to understand the current value and issues, and identify opportunities for improvement.

Interact with software suppliers, designers and developers to understand software limitations, deliver elements of system and database design, and ensure that business requirements and use cases are handled.

Unit, system integration, and end to end (E2E) process coding and testing for new enhancements, projects and performs or facilitates change management communication to the user community on future IT solution changes.

Understand and stay abreast of relevant architectures and technologies related to a business area. Research potential solutions and innovative ideas. Guide and manage interactions with technology vendors.

Work closely with stakeholders to build trust and understand their goals, motivations, constraints, risks, and operating environment.

Support longer-term business strategic goals through proposing improvements in value, cost, process, data, technology, functionality, and initiating high-level business requirements and feasibility studies to discover options and directions.

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor's Degree required.

Minimum of five (5 ) years of corporate IT background with at least 2 years programming experience preferably in Java.

Proven experience with object-oriented programming syntax required, preferably with Java and/or Beanshell.

Experience with US power markets, communications, and protocols used by Shell Trading & Supply (ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, SPP) and experience with ISO power market systems (PCI, nMarket) is preferred.

Experience with PCI (PowerCosts, Inc) software for ISO power markets

Experience with development source code version control

Experience working in a team of BAs/developers/engineers in the field of system analysis and applications software development and configuration.

Comprehensive understanding of technical process improvement, benefit and risk management, and software testing and of all testing events throughout the development lifecycle.

Knowledge of Trading.

Agile project experience.
