Achieving Success as a Business Systems Analyst

Business systems analysts live in a dusky belt that is caught between two very well-structured and separated sections - the technology sector and the business sector. This is one of the most undefined of all the current spectrum of organizational roles and responsibilities. But this doesn't diminish the significance of the role of a business system analyst. They have serious project management responsibilities upon them. They assess the technology set up in the organization and carry out research and plan to recommend software or hardware that is required to augment the business's bottom-line.

The major task of a business system analyst is to study the already present and implemented business models of the company and analyze their productivity. He then streamlines the business processes by designing and planning a new IT solution for the business organization to boost their efficiency and competence. This he does by acting as a mediator between a business community and IT development team. He has to undertake comprehensive project management of identifying and modeling process requirements, data requirements, business rules requirements, test requirements, facilitation of requirements sessions, defining project scopes, designing prototypes, writing system (technical) specifications, determining benefit/cost and leads supervision. He helps the programmers and developers in designing, coding, testing, deploying, maintaining, and supporting client initiatives.

Candidates aspiring for a calling in Business Analyst jobs should have a bachelor's degree in computer science or in any business oriented subjects like Management Information Systems. Reputed firms, however, prefer the candidates holding an MBA degree with a specialization in information system. These qualifications can be obtained from colleges, business schools and universities. Beside this there are institutes that give you specialized courses as a business analyst. There are online tutorials too. The requirement of educational qualification and specialization varies with the complexity of projects and technologies used.

The business systems analyst should be able to understand and analyze the business process to decide the opportunities and problem of the business. A candidate must be able to assess the clients' requirements to identify business and marketing requirements to translate into a project plans. The capacity to handle multiple projects is needed too. The aspirant should be abreast of the latest advancements/changes in the business and technological world and therefore go for professional courses, further specialization, or studies in the required field. Knowledge of various Windows operating systems, programming languages, and hardware platforms is required along with an understanding of data and finance. Management and leadership skills are required for project planning, risk calculation, employing resources and execution. They should have team spirit, communication, and problem solving skills to work with techs, end users, and the business department. He should be comfortable with tools like TOAD, Hyperion, and others.

Experience is of high value in this field. An experienced business analyst with the needed qualifications and skill-set has a good chance of being promoted as senior business analyst or manager for information systems or even CTO. These days most of the business analysts with good qualifications, expertise and experience find very rewarding jobs in the capacity of independent consultants.

According to the job surveys conducted by market analysts in this sector, roughly 146,000 new jobs will be created in the years to come. Job opportunities in this field will witness a steep growth as business organizations are continuously roping in new and sophisticated technologies to boost their profit margin. Overall, scopes of flourishing in this career are very good.

The average salary range of business system analysts is around $61,250 – $86,500 yearly based on the qualifications, experience, and type of work they perform. The salary of a business system analyst also depends on the organization or company they are employed with.

A business analyst is a highly paid and respected professional who works alongside the chief technology officer of the organization in strategically oriented functions to help the company continue to rise and expand. These are high level IT professionals that check with client organizations to find out technology requirements that support organizational business goals. In case you are aiming to graduate as a business systems analyst you need to be bright, imaginative, and a capable technologist with strong communication skills. If you are seeking a smaller environment you will influence the direction of the organization and be a major contributor to the accomplishment of the business by and large.
